Holding the ball on the right wing on Tuesday night, No. 12 in white took two dribbles toward the paint, stopped on a dime and spun around his defender, before elevating and tossing in the layup.
As the ball swooshed through the net, the shooter -- Florida Gators sophomore guard Zach Hodskins -- pumped his fist in excitement. It was the first basket of Hodskins’ collegiate career, and for a young man who was "born without the lower part of his left arm," the bucket was especially poignant and powerful.
The 6-foot-4 Hodskins first verbally committed to perennial hoops powerhouse Florida in late 2013. Including his one minute on the court on Tuesday, he’s played seven minutes thus far this season, after tallying that same amount in all of 2014-2015.
Hodskins' scoop shot put the icing on the cake that was the Gators’ 89-65 blowout win over Jacksonville Tuesday.
What a move, what footwork -- what a feeling that must’ve been for Hodskins as well as everyone that’s stood by him over the years. And, finally, what a reminder of how truly inspirational sports can be, when they’re played for the right reasons and with the right attitude. Congratulations, Zach.
